Learning Disabilities and the Arts

Course Description:

The purpose of this seminar is to introduce students to potential problems that children and adults with learning disabilities may experience when they participate in various arts including music, dance, drama, the graphic arts, creative oral and written discourse.  Research on the use of the arts to enhance various language, academic, and social skills will be reviewed.  Studies on gifted LD will be included. Implications for intervention will be discussed.

None

Requirements:

Weekly readings, participation in class discussions, and reflective essays will be required.   Observations, analysis of drawings, nonverbal communication, oral and written discourse will be included.  Students will review at least one research study related to their interests, give an oral presentation, write a critique, and suggest topics for future study.
