Undergraduate Funding Opportunities

Funding for Student Research and Experiential Learning

The School of Communication offers Grants to support undergraduate students in research, creative work, internships, conference participation, and high-impact learning activities. Grants can help to offset the costs of research and project supplies and materials, (but not media equipment or facilities costs) data collection, travel, lodgings, and other costs directly related to the research or creative project.

Conference & Travel Grants

School of Communication undergraduate majors in good academic standing who wish to participate in conferences, workshops and other professional development events are eligible to apply for funding to offset the cost of travel, accommodations and conference registration fees.

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) provides funding for undergraduates to present their research or creative work at a conference. Learn more about OUR Conference and Travel grants.

Research & Creative Work Grants

School of Communication undergraduate majors in good academic standing are eligible to apply for funding to support their participation in out-of-classroom learning experiences, such as research and the development of creative work.

Affordable Instructional Resources Support

The School of Communication works closely with the Office of the Provost & NU Libraries to help make course materials as affordable as possible.

There are a variety of programs at Northwestern designed to provide free or low-cost books, printing, software, and laptops to students. If you are enrolled in a School of Communication course and are having difficulty accessing course materials, you may be eligible for additional support.

Internship Awards

SoC undergraduate majors are eligible to apply for University or School-based funding to offset the cost-of-living expenses if they participate in low paying or unpaid summer internship opportunities.
