To transfer from one department of the School of Communication to another, fill out the interdepartmental transfer application, obtain the signature of your current advisor, and make an appointment with an advisor in the major to which you wish to transfer. If you do not know with which advisor to meet, contact the SoC Office of Undergraduate Programs and Advising at dear-soc@northwestern.edu.

IDT meetings with the advisor in your proposed major should be scheduled for the Friday before classes are viewable in Caesar or earlier. Once the advisor in your proposed major has reviewed the requirements for the new major and your progress toward degree, he or she will then sign off on your IDT application. Your new advisor will submit the form for you. Note that the Department of Theatre limits each class to 100; for this reason, students are not guaranteed they will be able to transfer into Theatre. Students interested in majoring in Theatre can request to be added to the wait list by contacting the SoC Office of Undergraduate Programs and Advising (dear-soc@northwestern.edu; 847-491-7214).
