Degree Options: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science

The School of Communication offers two undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Communication and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers only the B.S., which does not include a language requirement.

The Department of Communication Studies offers the B.S. and the B.A., both of which have a language requirement. The B.S. additionally requires a course on research methods in communication studies.

The Department of Radio/Television/Film offers only the B.A. for students matriculating in 2023 or later. Students who matriculated prior to 2023 can choose between the B.S. and the B.A., both of which have a language requirement.

The Departments of Performance Studies and Theatre (including dance) offer both the B.S. and the B.A.. The B.A. has a language requirement, but the B.S. does not.

Information on the language requirement can be found here.

Which degree is better? This is a matter of personal choice. A student interested in pursuing business-related fields may prefer the B.S., while a student going into an arts-related area might want a B.A. Today, there is very little difference between the two degrees, and your unique career goals can help you and your advisor determine which one is right for you.
