The Office of Undergraduate Programs and Advising (OUPA) supports undergraduate students through academic advising and career services that are closely aligned with the school’s teaching, research, and creative activities. We encourage students to explore new academic and social communities, make connections between their values, interests and experiences, and prepare for life beyond Northwestern University.
Academic Advising
SoC Academic Advisors are members of the faculty in one of our school’s five academic programs, where they may also teach and participate in the life of their home department. Students who are accepted as incoming freshmen or transfer into one of the six SoC majors join an advising cohort of peers in their major and are assigned to an academic advisor who will advise them until they graduate. Academic advisors hold regular advising hours each week and meet with students by appointment; they provideding guidance regarding course selection, degree progress, University policies and procedures, campus resources, professional development opportunities, and personal goals.
Career Services
In addition to providing career coaching and professional development support for SoC’s five professional programs, dedicated school level Internship and Career Services support (known as EPICS) is in place to help students explore internships, student organizations, research, creative projects, paid and volunteer work, and other experiences that might take place outside of the classroom as their Northwestern undergraduate journey unfolds. EPICS staff meet with students in one on one career advising appointments, produce career-related events and programming, and teach the EPICS internship and SoC Capstone courses.
